The Story.
When Pando began welding thirty years ago he worked in a yard where it was considered soft to wear gloves, and has not done so since. Consequently he’s sustained numerous burns over the years to his hands and arms
whenever sparks fly, “You’d be surprised the places they can end up” he says, “But fortunately I’ve never received any serious ones, though I may have had to jump about the yard a bit at times!” He’s made fire escapes, spiral stair-cases, even steam-punk coffee tables for a London furniture shop. “Wearing gloves stops me from feeling the work, it takes a certain finesse and artistry to wield an arc welder, and gloves create a barrier between my hands and the work.” Over the years his hands have guided his welder over 600 tons of steel.
